When I Fall in Love

by Lynn Kurland

Jennifer McKinnon is convinced there are no more knights in shining armor-at least not in Manhattan. Little does she know that a hero of legendary chivalry waits her...800 years in the past. (read review)

This was just a sweet, romantic story, something I look for in a romance novel. If you're looking for a strictly historical rendering book, read a non-fiction history book. If you're disappointed in the lack of accurate historical references in this book, then you've missed the point of When I Fall in Love. It's a LOVE story. Obviously, it wasn't meant to be a heavy, rich with history, book, given the time travel aspect and the three ghosts (I was glad the ghosts only had 1 chapter devoted to them - I've become bored with them). This book is all about romance with much witty dialogue. It is a light and enjoyable read. My favorites of Lynn Kurland are those set in the past with the de Piagets. I hope she will write Montgomery's and John's stories.

My only complaints would be Jennifer's constant crying and the ending that went on a little too long. I wish the books would be written in chronological order, also. It just confuses me some, as I tried to remember reading the other characters' stories that had already been written, and yet their stories hadn't happened yet in this book.

But, all in all, it was a great book that I recommend.

A charming premise ruined by lack of care. The author has no interest in researching the details that would make these books at least a bit historical: no effort, for example, to make the language or mode of thought reflect the period.

But what really ruined it for me is her complete cluelessness about the actual history. According to Kurland, in England of 1229,
* crumbling Norman keeps have bathrooms!
* people sit around on bales of hay!
* and Spain has chocolate...
(chocolate was only brought to Europe by the conquistadors after 1492, the baler was invented in the 20th century, and similarly, bathrooms are a modern convenience. Maybe Kurland could not bring herself to admit her heroine actually had to use an outhouse. :-)

And I guess the editors care as little as the author. Oh well...
When I fall in Love is another Lynn classic

Outstanding! This book never slows down and the ending was a surprise to me. Lynn Kurland is a master and by far my favorite author. It makes me want to travel through time!

If you are used to the standard . . . plot, plot, steamy love scene, plot, steamy love scene . . . type of romance novel then Lynn Kurland is not for you. But if you just melt over a true "Love" story, read this one and any of her others for that matter. Nicholas' character has always been one of my favorites in this family tree and was happy to finally read his story. Jennifer is a great character and the time at Artane before the grandmother shows up is wonderful. No question, this is just a GREAT read.
