Dawkin's prose is hardly a page turner -- this tome demands concentration; but the level of detail, his precise and clear explication for a...” see full review » see other reviews » |

Great book to learn about evolution, easy to understand, but not so easy to read, because it's too long.
You can learn more on evolution with this book than with Origin of the Species itself. I've read a portuguese translation.”
“Canterbury tales re-imagined as an evolutionary history progressing toward the ultimate ancestor of every living thing. Great book.”

In this book Dawkins takes us on a pilgrimage to the dawn of evolution and we are joined by various species' and kingdoms of organisms at several meeting points along our journey through time. What a grand treat it is to meet our concestors, varied as they are in their characteristics, and share interesting stories about our fellow travelers. It is a menagerie of life at various levels and all explained through the voice of science that evokes in us a sense of wonder and amazement that at the end of it you are left gaping for more. There is indeed grandeur in this view of the world as Darwin has said. It is such an important book for anyone interested in evolution. Hail our guide! He has done a marvelous job. And watching David Attenborough’s Life on Earth series alongside is sure to whet your appetite for knowledge and challenge your imagination.

“Richard Dawkins is one of those rare people who is brilliant and has a gift of being able to explain his brilliant thoughts to those of us duller minded souls....This book take shuman evolution backward from present day humans through the ages as we and other species branched off from closest relatives...For the first time i could suddenly understand how evolution would really work.....not light reading....but well worth the time invested.”

Dawkins brings in scientific evidence every step back the reader takes, and tries to explain how we as scientists discover the evidences for evolution. He is a truly eloquent writer with an obvious passion for the subject matter.
