All of these stories have good elements, but are an overall disappointment.

'Dearly Devoted Dexter', the second book in the Dexter series, followed on very differently to the first and takes a very different direction to the TV show. I quite enjoyed the different possibility of events and scenarios, as well as the darker and much more brutal Dexter, which the book portrays. I look forward to reading the third book and seeing further, just where the story goes.

The second book in the Dexter series.

Our favorite good serial killer accidently gets engaged to his girlfriend. Funniest book so far I find. Lots of car chases, missing limbs.

My fave out of the series so far.

I heard it is a really good book because it had a lot of blood and murders

The story of Dexter Morgan continues...a nice guy who just happens to be a serial killer. A police blood spatter analyst during the day and a homicidal maniac by night. In this story, Dexter grows increasing aggravated by Sergeant Doakes' fascination with him. Dexter is forced to lie low, slipping deeper and deeper into a domestic life with Rita and her children (Cody and Astor). Meanwhile, his "dark passenger" continues to call...and when a new psychopath begins terrorizing Miami it almost becomes too much for him to bear. Can our dearly devoted Dexter find his "freedom again?" Great book, and Nick Landrum does a fantastic job with the audio!

A good follow-up to the first novel. Differs from the TV series being a bit darker.
    An enjoyable read

The novel “Dearly Devoted Dexter” by Jeff Lindsay is a suspenseful and thrilling novel. This book is a thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the novel because of the most interesting plot, I do have to say it did get a bit boring a times but then it picks right up. My favorite part of the book is when Dexter was in the deep dark everglades, Jeff Lindsay actually made it feel like I was there I could vividly picture driving up to the gate going through carefully and shuttering an I hear Danco leaving. The main character Dexter Morgan is a mainly a protagonist but at some points is also an antagonist at the same time which may make the plot a bit more difficult to follow for the younger crowd of readers. Dexter tells this story from a first person point of vie and at some points you get very deep and enveloped in his complicated thoughts. Dexter works for the Miami-Dade Police Department but in his free time when his “Dark Passenger” summons him, will kill, which, if you like a suspenseful read, will indubitably keep you intrigued the entire novel. One other thing that makes this book interesting is Dexter is such a complex character he considers himself in human and a monster, but this effects his thoughts and when he uses his dark sense of humor it will most defiantly keep you intrigued. This novel I would suggest to a predominantly male crowd because of the gore and the fact that is a murder mystery, but who am I to say you will like a certain book. The plot is very well developed and if like a thriller and mystery it will keep you guessing until the very end. In conclusion I would give this book an seven and a half out of ten because to keep me interested in a book it needs to grab my attention and keep pulling me back in.

A much more developed plot than the first novel, Dearly Devoted Dexter was a lot of fun to read. The story is intense, and often disturbing. The writing is filled with sickening images, but Dexter's voice never breaks from being humorous. I couldn't put the book down, and managed to finish it in a day.
