Anne Morrow Lindbergh takes some time away from her everyday life and family to write and meditate on her life. What she ends up with becomes our own personal gift from her to us...her "gift from the sea." She reflects on everything from youth and age, to love and marriage, to the importance of peace, solitude and contentment in every woman's life. She does all this during one of her own brief vacations by the sea, using simple seashells as metaphors for the different aspects we face in life. This is a book that will continue to be discovered by many generations to come.”

I think that is the way it should be read ... again and again every 10 years of a woman's life because it means something new to each stage of our lives and gives us new insight into our relationships and our selves. As the auther says: each cycle of the tide is valid; each cycle of the wave is valid; each cycle of a relationship is valid, and ... my shells ... remind me that the sea recedes and returns eternally.”

While I related to some things, the book felt a little cumbersome in places. It did make me want to go back home to Maine for a visit to the ocean.”
