Heidi is a girl with a mother who has a mental disablity. When she notices that mother says the word "soof" a lot she starts to wonder what it means. Whenever Heidi brings it up, her mother will say something like, "Tea, Heidi", and that started to bug her. So Heidi goes on an incredible journey to find out what "soof" really means. This is a book about a girl who has to deal with her mother, and realizes its very difficult. Her mother says, "So Be It", so they made that her name (So B. It)

  • Heidi: She is a healthy young girl but her mother is mentally disabled. She is very independent and responsible, seeing that she takes care of her mother half the time.
  • Bernadette: Bernadette is like Heidi's mom but she is not at all related to her. She is actually her neighbor. She helps with all of Heidi's and her mom's needs. She also won't go outside, fearing that something bad will happen.
  • Mama (So B. It): Heidi's mentally disabled mother that is very dependent on Heidi and Bernadette.
  • Elliot: Mentally disabled man who lives at the Hilltop Homes.
  • Thurman Hill: Man whom runs Hilltop Homes.
  • Ruby Franklin: A woman who Heidi confides in and trusts.
  • Roy Franklin: Ruby Franklin's husband who is a police man. Heidi confides and puts her trust into him aswell.
  • Zander: Short for Alexander. A boy who lives in the same apartment building as Bernadette, Heidi and Mama. Tells far-fetched stories. Loves junk food. A couple years older than Heidi.
  • So B. It (Mama): Heidi's mom who only has twenty-three words in her vocabulary and can only do things like make tea and open cans and tie her shoes.
  • Heidi: This is a amazing book about a girl (Heidi) who's mom is disabled she is clueless of who her dad is who her mother is and more.She is in her early teens and has lots to find out.
  • The Chudacoff twins: Heidi babysits these kids to help earn money to support Bernadette and Mama.
  • Bernadette: A woman who lives in the same apartment building as Heidi and Mama with the fear to go outside because "something bad" will happen. Mama is not capable of caring for Heidi, so Bernadette takes care of both Heidi and Mama.
  • Diane DeMuth: Heidi's grandmother & Her mama's mom. She died.
