A difficult book to read. It brings up some tough issues, but it was so well written I couldn't help but finish it. It did a wonderful job of illistrating the how children are affected by abuse.

i agree with kellimix...after i read this i was so pissed off. i couldn't believe that a mother would not stand up for her own child.

but i have to say it was very well written. it brings harsh realities about some people's lives to the surface. allison was brave to write about such a sensitive subject. life isn't beautiful all the time..and novels like this bring the crappy parts of it to the forefront.

I have not read this book; but did I see the movie, and I am like kellimix, I felt like you did after seeing it, plus I was reading somewhere where one book group had the most heated discussion about this same book, so I know that this isn't a real likeable book.

    Hi januarileom
I agree there is definately an incestuous undertone throughout this book. Actually it had been recommended to me years ago by a friend who was sexually molested by her father..
