What goes through the mind of a killer when he's doing the nasty? This book is supposed to give you insight about what these top predators think, but so far, it's not. Love the graphical re-telling of it though.

Very informative on a large listing of serial killers, modern and past. It gives victims, and usually methods. Very simplistic and factual, listing also psychological upbringings of serial killers and MOs to their reasons behind killing as a necessity to their life. I've always had a fascination with serial killers, and if you do too this would be a good book to invest in to discover all sorts of serial killers.

My fave class in college was psychology. I received this book as a birthday present. I read it cover to cover. The interesting thing I noted was that while the moden day people like Gacey are familiar, serial killers have been around for and were more horrific given the time period of their deeds.

Probably the best of its kind on the market today, but there are still some problems with it. Far too many of the known killers are relegated to brief paragraphs in the first two appendices...and in the ones who got fuller listings, the victims of the crimes are given short shrift, reducing them to mere statistics without any real impact to them. I'm still waiting for a book of this type that brings home the horror that these human monsters create; we're in danger of becoming jaded by reports of serial killers now. Someone has to have a body count in the 40 or 50 range to make any headlines these days.

I wrote my senior thesis about the psychological implications and causes of serial murder, and that is because the phenomenon of serial murder is fascinating to me. Newton writes very well about very disturbing subject matter. I own this and several other encyclopedias like this, and I've found that Newton is one of the best writers.
