I've been trying to read this since late summer and am finding it difficult to get through. I'm only at the part where she first arrives in France, tell me, does it pick up the pace soon? Jane Eyre was quite superior thus far.

I'm having a bit of a hard time getting involved with this book. I'm not sure what the problem is.

Katiebee, I was also oddly attached to Polly & am hoping for her return.

So far, so good. I really love her way of writing. All of the Bronte sisters are just amazing. I'm at the part where Polly has left the Bretton's. I hope she comes back, as I got attached to her odd character...

If you are interested in reading this book I recommend the "Barnes and Noble Classics" edition because they translate the French dialogue on the bottom of the page.

    Villette vs. The Professor

So we know The Professor was the long-unpublished predecessor to Villette. The similarities are obvious, but how do they compare. Personally, I liked The Professor better, although the ending was a bit disappointing. Any other thoughts?
