Even though the book was a reply of the derogatory book Kim written by Rudyard Kipling, what Tagore achieved was far beyond it. When one realises that the problems he raised then continue to persist today, one wonders whether we have moved even an inch on the social front. We tend to fall into the traps of fundamentalism, which arise out of being derogated in terms of several issues such as religion, race, caste and superstition, proclaiming that everyone should subscribe to our stand, or else face the consequences. We do not wish to go beyond a certain set of thoughts, and only think in extremist fashion, instead of trying to be moderate, reasonable and accomodating of everyone's viewpoint. Though Gora was a foreigner, we all have a little bit of his traits in us
