The sisters really did have a lot of wisdom and pithy comments about life from their long experiences. They traveled many roads during that time and saw many changes in society and the culture. Fascinating to read of how they went from having to practically force their way into the education system due to the prejudices of their day. And yet they are very much against feeling that anything is owed to them as can be true today of Afro-Americans. They had their heads screwed on pretty straight.
