Joel is one of my favorite authors. This book is a collection of some of his writings from his blog site, http://www.joelonsoftware.com . Very amusing, chock-full of relevant personal experience and anecdotes, combined with facts and studies pulled from other books (Peopleware, Mythical Man-Month, etc.). It's billed as a primer for hiring programmers, but the same lessons can be used for any type of knowledge-worker.
