Fantastic - I love Anne Tyler - I love the subtle humour the on the money daily observances and the depiction of familial relationships. I cannot wait to read all of her other books. This is brilliant writing - thoroughly engaging.

This book left me feeling indifferent, and I won't be reading another Anne Tyler again very quickly. Can't understand why people rave about her. Found the book depressing and the characters unconvincing.

A good yarn, and plenty to think about.

Anne Tyler is a fantastic writer, but the negativity and dysfunction in this family really got to me. I managed/forced myself to get to the end, just to say I read it all, but it was a stretch.

I enjoyed the novel and a few times I chuckled. The characters were realistic and well drawn, but they were not very likeable.

This superbly written book is one of Anne Tyler's best. An expert of the character-driven novel, she gives us glimpses of the lives of ordinary people with extraordinary astuteness. At once heartwarming and heartwrenching, this novel is a delight from start to finish.

I was not so impressed. It was OK to read but not all that interesting.

it is difficult for me to verbalize how I feel about Anne Tyler
    I enjoy her books
the themes and the characters are so odd
she is perhaps too high brow for me; over my head
and yet, I love reading her work
for this story, I was not passionate in getting back to it each time, but I definitely wanted to read the whole thing and see where she was going with it. there were some surprise turns, and my recollection is that the last paragraph was really bizarre. I did not get that at all. i said, "what?" oh well. I don't necessarily have to understand it to enjoy it. Give me another Anne Tyler, I'll read it!

I found this book to be a bit sad - a family that never really connected - yet I could not put it down. I am definitely an Anne Tyler fan.
