“Anne Tyler is a fantastic writer, but the negativity and dysfunction in this family really got to me. I managed/forced myself to get to the end, just to say I read it all, but it was a stretch.”

I enjoy her books
the themes and the characters are so odd
she is perhaps too high brow for me; over my head
and yet, I love reading her work
for this story, I was not passionate in getting back to it each time, but I definitely wanted to read the whole thing and see where she was going with it. there were some surprise turns, and my recollection is that the last paragraph was really bizarre. I did not get that at all. i said, "what?" oh well. I don't necessarily have to understand it to enjoy it.
