Remember, Be Here Now

Be Here Now

by Ram Dass

It's easy to dismiss Be Here Now as the relic of a whacked-out '60s acid tripper. Paging through the center section of the book, with its inch-high print and psychedelic drawings, you come across lines like: Magic Theatre

your
mind
Then you turn to the first page of the book, and you are suddenly sucked into the story... (read more)

After I started on a spiritual path, this was one of the first books I read. I remember the first time I opened it up and it felt so right in my hands. It wasn't the 60's by then. I had missed it during the 60's but I had at last found it. It fairly vibrated in my hands. The first thing I read was: This is made in love for love and any portion of this may be reprinted to ring the bell of dharma, but only with the prior written permission of Hunuman Foundation. It rang. Then I realized I had heard of Ram Dass and later would get to meet him. As I slowly turned the pages, I came to one that just touching it made me feel as if a powerful jolt of electricity had just surged through my body. It was called The Butterfly. I read the words,
"I am without form, without limit, beyond space, beyond time. I am in everything, everything is me, I am the bliss of the Universe, everything am I." I sat and cried and cried. If God was in me and I was in God then I was never alone and all of this was real. I had a knowing that it was true. And I was off on this crazy, amazing trip of my own called my spiritual path. This book, for me, was interactive. I reach out to Divinity, it reached back for me. I highly recommend it if you are looking to fly with the angels and butterflies.

I imagine some find it easy to dismiss both this book and its author as titular products and/or projections of the sixties. But I'm afraid this book is just as intriguing, and as as strong, as any well-made kaleidoscope: what you see, when you open it, is different each time, and beautiful. A hard book to capture.

I love this book! Preface is a must in knowing and loving Ram Dass. I love his writing and his story because he will break it down in worldly terms so that those of us who are so attached still to the world can understand. It's so wonderful and comforting. I know the illustrations and poems may seem so far out but they aren't really, they were some heavy realizations he put down on paper that are TRUTH!

This book saved my sanity at age 35. It's main premise "Be Here Now" has become my mantra among others.
Ram Dass is my hero. It is a very artistic book and interesting to look at over and over again.

I read this book way way back in my youth. I don't even remember how old i was, but I do know that it sent my mind spinning in a direction that i have made into a way of life. Funny thing is, everyone that i gave this book to to read when i was young went off their rocker and never was sane again! Was that the book or just my choice in friends? hahaha
