Pretty good, the language is sometimes difficult to understand, but very well written.

I loved Father Brown as a character and his way of deduction. What i kept getting bothered by was Chesterton's biases in the narrative (they don't come out in the character at all. Just in the Narrator's voice). I suppose they date the author more then anything but still irritating.

Nothing very challenging here--but a lot of fun to read.

My first review on Shelfari and I think I'll start with one that's close to my heart. My first encounter with a Father Brown story was on a rainy Saturday afternoon at a friend's place. Post lunch everyone agreed that an afternoon nap would be an apt follow-up to the sumptuous lunch that the lady of the house had prepared. Problem with me is I can't sleep without reading a few lines and this little number with the look of a bunch of old world British whodunits looked perfect for the purpose. What followed was an afternoon of NO SLEEP! Every story tempted me on to the next and I was a bit let down that it wasn't the complete collection (it was one of the Wordsworth Classics with just the Innocence of Father Brown I think).

Anyway, I hunted down the complete collection and it's been a good friend ever since. The stories are these neat little gems that you relish each time you read - some mixed with the old world charm and others that have the touch of the contemporary; some that are racy and others contemplative.

An excellent read for any time or mood- but make sure you have provided for plenty of time because you'll not feel like putting it down after a story or two.
