I'm giving this four stars. There are some very religious messages in the book. This is a bit of a turn of for me. Nonetheless the book changed many ideas I held about raising my daughter and has been a great read.

Although this book was well-intentioned and there are a lot of things included that will help me in regards to my relationship with my daughter, Meeker seems to have an agenda in writing this book. Chapter One, for instance, is comprised of a lot of fear tactics and paints the surrounding world as chaotic and dangerous.

Now, I am not going to lie and say we all live in paradise where nothing goes wrong and we all are given the chance to become our full selves. I realize that women in our culture are placed into a vacuum of what femininity is. But, a truly strong father can put all of these things into perspective and teach his child, boy or girl, to realize the importance of his/her body, emotions and mind.

So, I will say I think the message of building a strong relationship for the benefit of the child is great, but I could have done without the scare-tactics of drugs, sex, abortion and crime.

I read this book about a year ago and really enjoyed it. Many useful insights into that all important Father-Daughter relationship. Easy read, but most importantly, very motivational.

I read this to my husband when I was pregnant with our daughter as we made our 45 minute drive to my appointments and our Lamaze classes. We both liked it and highly recommend it. Note: the author has very conservative views.
