This was the first book I read on my own as a child. I still remember the excitement of waiting to find out what was going to happen next. I couldn't contain myself and kept asking my older family members aloud about the plot. "Read the book!" they kept telling me. I did, and have not stopped...

While exploring the woods near her home, a young girl, Lucy, encounters a small dog. She allows the friendly creature to lead her along a faded pathway, into a hidden cave and through a tunnel. When she emerges from the darkness, Lucy discovers an enchanted land and a young man named Michael who treats her to stories about the people and other beings who once lived there.

One of my all time favorite books, Shadow Castle is a wonderful fairy tale full of goblins and dragons, fairies and magic and love. I first read this when I was very young and never gave my copy away. I shared it with my own children and am now sharing it with their children.

When my only daughter graduated from high school, I gave her her own copy of Shadow Castle to cherish. Years before, this was the book that had made her fall in love with reading. But I also chose it because I want her to always believe that life is filled with more than we may be aware of.

    Very highly and happily recommended.

Shadow Castle is a lovely little fantasy story that I've been meaning to read for several years, but have only just got around to. Of course, it was hardly the work of an hour to read, but it was certainly an hour well-spent. The characters are fun, and if the dialogue was a little suspect at times, it didn't harm my enjoyment. Tiny, magical mice which can change your appearance or make you invisible, goblin dust to reveal the goblins in disguise, and a marriage spell to join a fairy and a mortal--Shadow Castle is full of wonderful, magical things, making it a delightful bit of light reading.

I have a soft spot in my heart for this book that launched my lifelong journey of reading.
