This was an interesting read. My least favorite of Sarah Waters's three novels, and certainly the most graphic. Though I am not easily offended, I did find pieces of this book a little lewd for my tastes.

Thoroughly enjoyed. Glad I read the book before seeing the BBC mini-series. Sarah Waters clearly did her research for this book and was able to bring to life Victorian sensibilities and settings. She was also able to show how wonderful and terrible love can be.
