“I loved this book on so many levels. It is a book which takes a number of genres and undermines them. Fun!!
The story is your basic Alice in Wonderland plot. A naive and likeable character goes on a quest and in the process has many adventures and meets a series of eccentric and unlikely characters. The quest is set in contemporary Tokyo.
The book consistently sets up a magic realism discourse but then discounts it as a dream or a story. It has mangaesque descriptions of yakuza and...”
