What most people probably *missed* was that the movie was a PARODY of fascist/militarist propaganda films, and didn't advocate the message it was apparently sending (because that's what's called "irony").
It's really obvious once you look at the fictional commercials/newsreels that pop up occasionally during the movie.

So no, that one's NOT an advocate of the militarist society Heinlein probably advocated in the novel - quite the contrary.

The book is MUCH better than the movie. If you're going to read a Heinlein book read this one first.

you should read it. even though the movie got the gist of what Heinlein was trying to say, the book is still much better than the movie. the technology and the fight scenes are much better in the book.

I haven't read this book, but I watched the movie and I really love the idea of "citizenship" meaning more than "my lazy ass was born here."
