“I think this book was exciting and funny! This book was so interesting I couldn't put it down. It had a lot of suprises and humor, too.”

She is already very irritated with her classmates and now her mom is even making her go to art classes! But, everything changes when she saves the President for an assassination attempt. All of her classmates are super nice to her now, and the worst thing of all, the president's son just might be in love with her. Read this book to find out about Sam's crazy life.”

Yes | No“I had high expectations for All-American Girl because I have read Meg Cabot’s other series: The Mediator (which I absolutely adore). Sadly, I was very disappointed on how this book turned out. It had so much potential…
The first and main problem that I had with this book was the main character: I strongly disliked her. I never disliked a main character this much before so it both surprised and shocked me. Okay, so Sam spends a lot of time raging on and on about how boys always notice her older sister Lucy and not her. Or how unfair it was to be the middle child (which according to Sam is unimportant and never gets want she wants). But when a cute guy pays attention to her, she brushed him off, saying that he was just nice to her because she saved his dad. Dude, what is your deal? Her obsession with Jack was so annoying because Jack is a douchebag. I hate to admit but every character in this book annoyed me at one point or the other. I just can’t connect with them at all. I feel like Meg Cabot wrote the characters with stereotypes in mind for example: Sam, who is a rebel, wears black and does not like dressing up while her sister, Lucy is a popular cheerleader who cares only about popularity and looks.
What I look for first in books are the characters. If I don’t like the characters then chances are I won’t like the story, no matter how good it is. The plot of this book wasn’t that great because it is pretty predictable. Also the President’s security sucks. Come on! Shouldn’t the Secret Service make sure that there weren’t people standing right in front of the store that the president is going in? The whole Sam-saving-the-president-by-jumping-on-the-gunman-when-there-were-only-her-and-him is not just believable for me…
Another negative point about this book was the humour. Meg Cabot tried too hard to make the book funny but a lot of the jokes for example the lists involving Gwen Stefani fell flat.
What happened, Meg Cabot? The Mediator series was so good…

“Samantha Madison is just your average disenfranchised sophomore gal living in D.C. when, in an idle moment sandwiched between cookie-buying and CD-perusing, she puts a stop to an attempt on the life of the president. Before she can say "MTV2" she’s appointed Teen Ambassador to the U.N. and has caught the eye of the very cute First Son. ”
