    Thornbird..............November 30, 2008
Thorn Birds –( Colleen McCullough) The book's title refers to a mythical bird that searches for thorn trees from the day it is hatched. When it finds the perfect thorn, it impales itself and, singing the most beautiful song ever heard as it dies.

Its been long since I have been searching
    I've seen the world, a lot's been h'ppening.
I've looked for a reason in every season
I've looked for what will make me, me.

In a search for my identity, I have fled
I have been running for all my past years.
Then in the middle, I come to hear a story
Mythical and magical, of a strange lil being.

"Thorn birds", a frail lil winged creature.
Born to search for "its" perfect thorn
Into which will pierce its tiny heart and sing
Sings till it dies, bonded to what it was born for.

I am sure now I know why I exist here
To search my thorn in the vast wilderness.
I cannot imagine the beauty of that song
Which arises from the lil thornbird.

It will be shrill and match most nightingales
Passion of the long search strengthens the voice
Patience from long waits for the rising sun
It deepens the soulful melody of the song .

What its sings for I know not, they mention not
For a mate, for pure pain or for sheer vain.
But it sings a song so heavenly, I imagine
Impaled in thorn, its sings without gain.

I say "lil one , tell me why you sing in pain"
She says, "Born for this one song, I was.
Song will not rise from my soul till
My thorn bleeds my heart slowly, in pain."

I was born for my thorn and my song , she said.
I know now why I live, for my love, my song
In my heart, my thorn is already impaled
I am singing and now I know how beautiful.

As my heart bleeds, the words rise soaked
In scarlet red, Fathom the depths they rise from
Intoxication of the wine from pain of eternity
Intensity of the last few moments of destiny.

As life ebbs away from my soul, slowly
The song loses its strength but not its meaning
Exotic it is, like my thorn bird, rare in breed
To die in the beauty of its only song.
