I would say this had to be my first "favorite" book. And it is one that I can read again and again. The Author, Torey Hayden, spent many of her professional years in a classroom, teaching "special needs" children. When this book was written, I don't believe that these classrooms were even referred to as "special needs." Torey writes about and describes in great detail, her encounter and experience with little Sheila. This book is gripping and unforgettable. It even made me think about going into Special Education as a profession. This is the first of Hayden's books and some would argue, the best. Do yourself a favor and get in touch with your heart and settle down for Hayden's remarkable gift of story-telling in the fashion of rememberance.

The book is about a little girl, who is very young and has a lot of issues. I believe her mother is gone and she was being raised by her father. The teacher is trying to help her its terribly sad at times. I don't want to say too much it will give things away. However if you are senistive to child abuse situations I would read with caution. It is a very good book, and all of Toreys books (as far as I know) are all true stories based on her career.

One Child is an amazing story. Although its pretty sadd it has a great plot but then never realized how a girl, shelia in the story could go through something so server in her life. Also the plot in the story never gets tired or bored dor anything, its like a suirprise in every chapter. I would recomend the book!!
