Didn’t Like It“I almost gave this 3 stars because it is funny in places. The story is about a woman who is turned and needs to find a "companion" to help her during the day. There's a threat, but what caused me to give it two stars was due to the treatment of the "villain" and the ending. I didn't like the...” see full review » see other reviews » |
“Now this is the Christopher Moore I initially raved about. This is light and irreverent and a lot of fun. The main characters are likeable and the supporting cast strong. The "Animals", Tommy’s fellow night-shifters at the Safeway, seemed like precursors to the "Nerd Herd" on Chuck. Moore explores some of the little talked about side effects of becoming a vampire, like having to quit your job and figuring out what to do when your car gets towed and you can’t retrieve it in the daytime. Then again, it’s hard to beat the perks of perfect skin and superhuman strength. This is the first book of a series, and we’ll definitely be listening to You Suck sometime this year.”

I didn't like the main character and a lot of the other characters seemed more like cliches than developed characters. ”

And making the transition from the 9-5 grind to an eternity of nocturnal prowlings is going to take some doing. In walks C. Thomas Flood (Tommy), a would be writer looking for excitement and inspiration. He finds both when he meets up with, and agrees to help, Jody. can their love survive the time difference, the Animals, the murder rap, and especially the 800 year-old vampire who seems bent on killing them both? This is my first a Christopher Moore novel. I enjoyed it, but don't see myself running very quickly to the library to pick up another one.”

Knowing she needs help during the daylight hours, she quickly finds Tommy to do her dirty work. This relationship works out well as Tommy is from the middle-of-nowhere and is excited to have his first girlfriend despite the fang baggage. Except one problem. The vampire that turned her is causing trouble, leaving murder victims that--to the cops--appear to be Jody's victims. Tommy must gather his friends, the Animals, and get the vampire before he gets killed.
I read You Suck the sequel to this first, but that was okay. Lots of typical quirky action. Not hard to read at all.”
