This is my third time reading this book. I first read it at University, and then again when I was pregnant with my first child. And both times I was entrahelled by what I read. I knew what to expect from book, but I was curious on how I would react to certain events that happened to the author.

Nothing much changed from the previous times that I read the book. I still felt the anger and wonder of what happen to the author as a child and how she drew strength to survive. And the humiliating way the she, her family, were treated just because of the color of their skin. It's revolting, it just makes me angry. I wish I could express it better, I just do not have the words.

I think what I love most about the book, is the author's voice. Even though it's prose, it has a poetic flow to it.

Wow. For such a terrible childhood filled with the destruction of innocence, Maya Angelou is the queen of over coming any obstacle. It was a fast, yet powerful read that I read many summers ago.

I implore you to read ALL of Dr. Angelou's autobiography. This is just the first book. This woman has had an amazing life, and you would never know that she was once a madame, close friends with Dr. King, etc. Read them all.

I know this is a pretty famous book which tons of people have read, but this was my first time reading it. I enjoyed her story the story of her life and how much she loved to read and learn. She really is an enspiring women. It ended a little abruptly for me, I felt like I was left hanging a bit but still very good.

What a book! I cant believe I owned this book for so many years and didnt read it. It is about oppressed people all over the world written by one of them. It is about a child's life and how she struggles with this adult life. It is about our fears and boogies and hopes. I now need to read more books by her. She holds up a mirror to the life of "Negro" people in the USA without getting into pathos. And of course, we see her life as well - which is fantastic - not all good, but real - like with all of us. Would strongly recommend it.
