Cast of Characters

  • Jane Grey: A young noblewoman with great intellectual and religious interests. She is closely related to king Edward VI and therefore a focus point for plots, especially when the king starts weakening.
  • Edward VI: The young king of England. Like Jane, he is a fervent protestant.
  • Edward Seymour: The son of Lord Protector Somerset. A friendly young lad with whom Jane gets along well.
  • Frances Grey: Jane's ambitious and ruthless mother.
  • Henry Grey: Jane's father. Like Frances, he is very cold to his daughter.
  • John Dudley: One of the sixteen members of the Regency Council, who sees Jane as a useful tool in his bid for power.
  • Guilford Dudley: John's youngest son.
