The writing style is generally good. There were some cliche statements, settings, and characters that made me wince, though not so many that I was distracted from the story. If you are a fan of "The Stand" this is a worthy book for that genre. I liked "The Stand" much better than this one though.”

It bears a strong resemblance to "The Stand" but is possibly better. It has many of the trademarks: large cast of characters, good versus evil, magical elements, and chapters that wander back and forth between groups of people that are converging as the novel moves forward.
Yes, this book does occasionally drift toward mild mawkishness . . . but it won't stop you from turning pages, and you'll be more choked up than you expect at the death of Mule (a . . . mule) and Killer (a little dog) . . . McCammon isn't subtle sometimes, but the novel is effective.
The presence of odd, magical elements stretches credulity; however, the novel is otherwise very bleak, extremely violent, and somehow the unrelenting grey, sickening aspects of the landscape help us to believe the elements that would be silly in the hands of a lesser storyteller.
It's not profound, no revelations here, but if you want 900+ pages of good old page-turning apocalyptia . . .this is a must read.”
“I loved this book when it came out. Some fans of King's The Stand saw it as a copy-cat book, but I found Swan Song was a good enough read to stand on it's own.”

I want to read more books about after the Apocalypse. Books like The Stand and Swan Song. Anyone has any recommendations? would be very much appreciated.
I know I am going to re-read this book in 10 years from now. :)”
