Didn’t Like It“Not at all what I expected when I sat down to read it. I thought Disney took the story and only tweaked it instead of dropping it on its head. This is actually a series of short stories, most of them mediocre at best.” see full review » see other reviews » |

I started from the beginnings, and finished it today (More than 200 pages)
This is the book I really love, and I read several times. I found this book very interesting because the life in the Jungle is very new for me. The languages between the animals in the Jungle "You and I are brothers". Human Mowgli become brothers with WOLVES, and he grows up thinking he is one of those wolves. However, I hated the ending when the Mowgli has to leave the Jungle. He couldn't get into the humans just because he was different with others, and he couldn't fit into the Jungle either because he is human. I recommend this book to people who likes the book full of adventures. ”
“Easily the best children's book ever written (apart from Kipling's Puck of Pook's Hill).”

There is the story of Mowgli, the boy raised among wolves in a jungle, who gets his revenge on the tiger Shere Khan (Shere Khan tried to kill Mowgli when he was first found). Then there is the story of Kikoh, a white seal who spends years searching the oceans until he finally finds an island where seals can live in safety. Then there is the story of Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, the mongoose who becomes the pet of a human family, whom he in turn saves from the snakes Nag and Nagaina. Tomai, the boy who saw the elephants dance, also has his story told here. There is even the story of various animals in an army (a troop-horse, a mule, a camel, and a bull) who talk about the different ways of serving.
My favorite story was the story of Rikki-Tikki-Tavi. I loved how he was so courageous and defended his family. I also loved that he got rid of the snakes Nag and Nagaina. To me, he was wonderful.
My least favorite story was the one where different animals talked to each other about the ways they served the queen in the army by each doing their various jobs. I found it a bit boring. Though I didn't enjoy that story much, I did enjoy many of the others and liked the book overall.”
“This was one of the classics in my grandparent's library, where I would spend hours. I was an early reader, I read Kipling's Rikki-tikki-tavi when I was 5 years old. Kipling is a classic!”

A lot of good stories like Rikki Tikki Tavi. Also a lot of moral lessons in the stories. No real plot line. Just a combination of animal stories. Not at all like the Disney version.”
