Most people would disagree with me if I say that The Silmarillion is far better than the Lord of the Rings. Here are my reasons
1. The language, though difficult at times, is closer to the language used in authentic legends. Tolkien strived to create an air of authentcity around his Middle...

This is a very good book and yet confusing in some places. I like this book but you have to have a lot of patience for this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who really likes Lord of the Rings.

The Silmarillion by J. R.R Tolkien is said to be the “bible” of Middle Earth. It explores the early histories, struggles, creations, and battles fought in pre-Lord of the Ring’s time. The Silmarillion is meant to be more of a background to Tolkien’s other novels than a plot driven novel. It is a book meant for very dedicated fans that desire to learn more about Middle Earth and its creation.
Because of his amazing linguistic skills, Tolkien was able to transform this book into what would be considered an authentic telling of the mythology associated with the popular Lord of the Rings series. It is almost unbelievable how much time was spent perfecting the language modeled in the series of books. Although it is hard to grasp everything through one read, Tolkien’s style of writing tricks your mind into thinking you are watching the events as if you were in the story. This book takes an absurd idea created from the imagination and transforms it into a completely believable story that you forget is fantasy.
From the first page on, this book reels you in as you follow the almost surreal stories of the characters, learn the histories of the races not covered in Tolkien’s other novels, and watch as the entirety of Middle Earth forms throughout the pages. I personally found this book inspiring and can truly say that the information presented in The Silmarillion was brilliant. It is definitely an excellent contribution to literature with its awe provoking characters and genius story design.

I loved this book. It's very difficult to read, as there is a lot of content in each page. So, it can be a slow go. But for anyone who is into Middle Earth, I highly recommend it. This book goes into the history of Middle Earth and how it came to be.

The Silmarillion is not for the faint of heart. Where The Hobbit can be enjoyed by all ages and the LOTR is written for more advanced readers, one must be intent on reading the Silmarillion. But those that do find a treasure of fictional history and mythology in its pages. It provides the back-story that makes the LOTR that much richer, but it can be enjoyed on its own.

This was enjoyable to read to continue to explore the mythologies created by Tolkien. I avoided reading it for the longest time, but finally broke down. I can see some arguments that Tokien was not a novelist, but rather, a mythologist, but I found the stories engaging.

This is a broad, broad tale. It makes you develop a home in your mind for all the LOTR stories, even the Hobbit. I love the sweep of it, the vastness, and the human touches, just a little deranged, for inclusion in the tribes of elves and others. I am so glad I read it before any of the movies came out!

A must read for Tolkien fans. Great stories and clears up a couple of lingering questions from The Lord of the Rings series. A bit of a slow start, but worth it.

one of the best tolkien's books, besides it gives necessary knowledge to understand what "the lord of the rings" is all about. Strongly recommended for all tolkien lovers and not only... :)
