Eggers has a beautiful power in his writing. These short stories show, as the title says, how we are all hungry; how all of us have another part of us, an animal part, and how that is reflected in our lives. Truly an artist of words.

I enjoyed this collection a lot. The story I enjoyed the least was, unfortunately, also the longest by far---"Up the Mountain Coming Down Slowly", which, with the way it plods along, drags down an otherwise engaging group of stories.

At first I mistook these stories for the kind that follow other stories up a path we all know and have too often taken. Without warning, I was off the path, clinging to a ledge, hoping other would read this book, and that it would change everything for the better. It wants to.

Starts off really great, then fades. Unfortunate because Eggars is a great writer, but at times gets caught up in how witty he is and it gets spoiled from that point on...

Great travel book. Enjoyed his stories told from a female perspective.

Loved it - esp. the last story, written from the point of view of a dog

Diverse mix of short stories -- funny, sad, dark and poignant. Two favorites are "After I Fell in the River and Before I Died" and "Your Mother and I."

On and off. A few are outstanding, some not so much. But hey, that's the nature of short fiction.
