Kuper’s electric drawings—which merge American cartooning with German expressionism—bring Kafka’s prose to vivid life, reviving the original story’s humor and poignancy inidéia que este era apenas o "sustento" da casa. Nesta história, Kafka and graphic novels alike. “A brilliant illustrated adaptation of Franz Kafka’s famous story. It’spresenteia-nos com a real pleasure to read and one in which everyone will recognize the existential drama and uncanny wit of the original text."—Susan Bernstein, associate professor of comparative literature and German studies, Brown Universitysua escrita sui generis, retratando o desespero do homem perante o absurdo do mundo.

    • A middle aged man undergoes a large change in his life. One morning, Gregor Samsa, the main character changes into a human-sized bug. Readers are shown the difficulty he went through since the very beginning. When he wakes up the very first morning, he has pains all over and has difficulty getting out of bed. He eventually rolls out of bed, past 7:00 am. He has now missed the early and next train. He was supposed to make the 5:00 am train in order to get to work on time.

The manager of the traveling salesmen comes to Gregor's house (Gregor lives with his parents and sister, Grete). Gregor finally rolls himself out of bed and when he unlocks the door, the manager goes running out of the house. Gregor's father charges to him, to get Gregor back into his room.

After a few days, Grete leaves food in the room for Gregor. Gregor soon realizes he no longer likes fresh foods, but does like rotten foods.

Grete decides that it would be best for Gregor if they took out the furniture in his room. At first, Gregor's mother disagrees, but in the end, Grete persuades her to do so. While moving the furniture, Gregor decides that enough is enough and jumps out from under the sheet he hides under. This makes Greogor's mother faint. Grete runs Gregor out of his room. At the sight of Greogor and his wife's fainting, Gregor's father starts chasing after Gregor. Gregor's father grabs some apples and starts chucking them at Gregor. One hits Gregor in the back and is permanently lodged there. Suddenly, Gregor's mother runs out of the room, half- dressed and leaps onto Gregor's father pleaing for Gregor's life.

Gregor has returned to his room. He starts eating less and less everyday.

Gregor's parents decide to start taking boarders because even though they each got jobs, they need more money. One day, Grete was playing her violin, when the boarders asked her to come out of her room. Grete comes into the living room and begins playing. Gregor hears her beautiful playing and opens his door slightly. Gregor builds up his confidence and comes out of his room. At this sight, Gregor's father jumps in front of the boarders so they can't stare at Gregor.

Gregor is locked back into his room. A few days later, the cleaning woman comes in to find Gregor dead. The family first cries, but then goes on a trolley ride to the country. The Samsa family decides that they soon will need to find a new apartment and a good husband for Grete.
