my mother gave me this book as a gift when i reached the age of 13. i then watched the movie with my mother. never before have i been so appreciative of my family's struggle, especially my mother's struggle. this book is powerful into seeing the contrasting lives of mother and daughter. i recommend this book to all women and their mothers and daughters. love it

It's a great book. I laughed with it,cried with it cause the moms in the story remind me of my mom and her mahjong mates...and she's so far away.........

This is chick lit, but it's good. I read Tan's novel for my American Lit course and I liked it.
