I loved "A Tale of Two Cities". The love story was my favorite part of it. Dickens poses the question - is love selfish or selfless? Both sides appear within the novel, and it is interesting to think about. Ultimately though, Carton does prove his love as selfless when he sacrifices his life for...

Though I enjoyed every other Dickens novel I've read (essentially all of them) I remember having to read this in high school and finding it painfully boring and difficult to get through. I know a lot of my classmates found it difficult based on the language used, but I read The Scarlet Letter and Jane Eyre for the first time in 6th grade without issue, so for me the language wasn't the problem. It was the story. I guess I should probably read it again as an adult and see if my opinion has changed, after-all it does take place during one of my favorite times in history. I'll post an actual rating once I've re-read it.

With this story, it is all about the symbolism. The leads are very cookie-cutter and the story line is overall not told at quite the right pace, the theme of rebirth and redemption is very powerfull and moving.

My first time reading a Dickens novel, only half way through and will put a review up when finished.

You have to get through quite a bit before it gets good. I'd recommend it, if you have the patience for it.

Both sides appear within the novel, and it is interesting to think about. Ultimately though, Carton does prove his love as selfless when he sacrifices his life for Lucie's sake. It is extremely difficult to finish with dry eyes, and I would love to re-read.

Even though the English teacher who taught this book sophomore year was not my favorite, I absolutely loved this book. I loved the plot, imagery, suspense, everything! The only downside to this book is you can tell sometimes that this book was at first published in chapters.

I absolutely hated the first 2/3 of this book. Then Dickens said "Ha!" and threw Book the Third at me. The plot twists literally threw me against the wall. It was astounding how he wrapped up this book. It was just as chaotic as the French Revolution. Simply genius.
