The account by Nora Vincent of her time spent as a man was a quick read. To think that she spent 17 months as an imposter and of the opposite sex! Once you start reading, you realize (as she soon did) that this was not an easy transfer. Nora Vincent covered a good cross spectrum of men's lives...

It isn't bad, I suppose, and I really like her writing style -- it makes me wonder if she talks in flowing language like that, too -- but she makes far too many generalizations for my taste. I basically realized that I didn't really care what she discovered, as it has very little relevance to me...

The account by Nora Vincent of her time spent as a man was a quick read. To think that she spent 17 months as an imposter and of the opposite sex! Once you start reading, you realize (as she soon did) that this was not an easy transfer. Nora Vincent covered a good cross spectrum of men's lives where she spent her time. I was fascinated by the story and felt that I was privy to information that could be confirmed by someone who was THERE. I've always thought that it would be tough to be a man; when I was 17 I remember thanking God that I wasn't a guy because I could not imagine being drafted into war. Nora doesn't even get into that topic, of war and drafts -- plenty of other situations to delve into. An excellent read.

Fascinating account of a woman journalist "passing" as a man in men's environmnets. She surprises herself in what she uncovers. She does less well in personal insights but the heart of the book is revealing the constraints on men. I recommend it.

A fascinating examination of gender, the construction of gender, and the sometimes different worlds in which we walk. It's an accessible read but also smart. Pick this one up.

Book club read and not as insightful as we all thought it would be.

Interesting reading. Some parts are more interesting than others, and it's a little dry when Vincent goes on in length about her opinions or psychobabble. Makes me wish she would have filmed some of it so viewers could see her in action and hear how she changed her voice. And I wondered what her girlfriend thought of her fooling around with some of the girls?

I trink being a gay man I got something out of this book that was not necessarily intended. Being a lesbian doing her best to fit into the pigeon holes straight men often feel forced into, is very similar to the role many gay men feel they have to play every day. Her observations are at times astute and always well-written.

Thankfully she has the caveat at the beginning that this is only one person's experiment and not a scientific one by any means, but her experiences and even the aftermath of her playing pretend for so long are fascinating to say the least.

A great book for women who are willing to understand the type of world men live in.
