I thought "Cloak of Deception" was a good entry in the Star Wars universe of books. The reason I liked it, however, could easily be the reason others would not: it delves into some of the political machinations that occurred prior to Episode 1 (The Phantom Menace) that allowed Darth Sidious to maneuver the Trade Federation into being the force it eventually became.
