She is numb, but manages to take the train to New York. There she meets brothers Dave and Luis through Lollipop, a disoriented, fragile child of the streets. They all live in a train tunnel and slowly Val gets caught up in the world of faeries, monsters, and ogres. Val becomes indebted to Ravus, a troll and she begrudgingly agrees to make deliveries for him, as the faerie world is up in arms about mysterious poisonings of their kind. Val is suspicious of these deaths and wonders who is to blame for them. Little by little the truth comes out, and Val unwittingly begins to fall in love with Ravus. As the poisoning mystery comes to end, Ravus, Val and all her tunnel friends are in deep danger. Val becomes an important piece to the defense and she relies on her training from Lacrosse and lessons from Ravus to face her enemies. With shadowings of beloved fairy-tale stories, this updated modern tale of faerie is well-written, suspenseful and haunting.
Even though this second book by Holly Black has the same tedious amount of foul language, drug abuse and sexual escapades as TITHE, this book is well written and the story flows seamlessly through to the conclusion. I am sure this tale would have great appeal to YA audience.”
“Not as good as book one, Tithe, but still enjoyable. The drug use really sent it home, because without it NYC woulds have seemed superficale. The whole bff coming to NYC to save her a**, that was just dumb. All in all a good book.
Happy Reading,

“It's the same gritty faery world, but with different characters. It was interesting, but not quite what I was looking for - I wanted a follow-up to Tithe, and this didn't really fit the bill.”
