Fluff....that's what this book is. This book was CLEARLY written for young adult girls who fantasize about their knight, or in this case, their vampire, in shining armor. Blach..... So many things irritated me about it including how on earth could an OLD, and you would think wise, vampire fall in love with a goofy teenager. Give me a break!!!!! And, I thought the author was beating a dead horse with the constant talk from Edward about not wanting to put his human girl in danger and the girl's constant talk about not caring if she was in danger. Edward has all the power and control over his little woman. Ugh..... But, even after bashing this book, I still finished it!!!! So, I admit that I enjoyed it on a teenage girl level! If you want to read purely for entertainment, because we all need books like that sometimes, go for it. If you're looking for something that goes beyond entertainment and the usual male/female roles, avoid it. I would love to see young girls (and grown women!) reading books that empower them and challenge stereotypical male/female roles instead of upholding the status quo.

Obviously you have not read the rest of the series, nor do you plan to. If fantasy and sci-fi are not for you, don't try. I do think that you would find that Stephanie Meyer did an amazing job setting up a world in which she could tell an amazing story in the next books to come for the fantasy fan. These books are young adult books. As far as the general male female roles, Bella is one of the strongest female characters I have ever read, but it takes reading the entire series to realize that.

I agree that you do not have to be stictly an intellegent reader to enjoy this book. Sometimes you just have to let the mind go, it is not all business all the time just try to enjoy something that is a little bit different. Not to mention is that not what every young girl is dreaming about "A knight or vampire in shining armor" or " the hot intelligent guy that falls in love with the goofy girl". For these young girls it was something for them to relate because none of them believe theirselves to be perfect, and many feel like they are the goofy girl. I just don't think you have an open enough mind to understand the young generation, and see the shimmer of light that was used by Stephanie Meyer in creating this book that all the young girls love. In a world everything is so negative, I support something uplifting and bright.

The only thing good about this book (besides the prose) was Alice. She was pretty, cool, and likable. Bella is sooooo thick-headed, though.

Okay, I think your totally right about the book being on a Teenage Girl Level but that is who it is aimed at. C'mon, that's like a Teenage Girl saying they don't like books aimed at Adults because it was aimed at adults! That was the whole point of the book. Also, you said that Edward was an OLD and wise Vampire all over a Teenage Girl but if you would like to check I am sure that it said he was Seventeen...The same age as Bella. So he wasn't really older than her! In all fairness to you, you are totally right about everything else.

oh my god, thanks soo much!!! this is like one person out of 100 that actually agree with me!!!!!!!! i think this book was sooo OTT, and completely what girls of my age WANT to be treated like by their boys. if i had to choose a character that i even agreed with at all, it'd probably be jacob, he seemed to have the best way of looking at things, and he ws so much more fun than puffy edward. but still, this book was a disappoinment to me

It's funny how people start bashing you because you "take this too seriously" and "don't want to read anything for fun". Well, screw that, people DO read serious stuff for fun. Besides, this book was crap and I just couldn't read anything like this for fun. It took a lot of effort just to finish it.

The characters are incredibly annoying because they have utter disregard to reality and are willing to throw away anything merely for the sake of an unrealistic love. I found Twilight to have a decent plot and storyline but Bella has no moral values and her actions show teenagers that it is perfectly fine to partake in sexual intercourse.

I hated it (see my review) but playing devils advocate, part of what makes romance work is that the girl is protected by the guy. its stupid, but its culture and it sells. but yes I agree. WE GET THAT THERE IS CONFICT IN THE RELATIONSHIP. YOU DON"T HAVE TO LITERALLY SPELL IT OUT. WE ARE NOT THAT STUPID. seriously. Its like she expected the same elementary schools that find disney to be god to like her book. *sigh* but I digress...
