“I never really understood what I feel towards this book. I have just finished it last night and am going to start the second book soon. It's that kind of silly book that you can read in one go, without having to stop and think about what something could mean. It's all straightforward (I wanted to give it a 2.5 rating so it would be 50-50, but apparently we can't give half stars). When I started the book, I thought nothing of it. The main girl was kind of annoying, but I guess that's part of the character's evolution. When she met Edward and started out on the wrong foot, it was just like any other teenage love/drama story that would soon turn itself around so they would be in love. And as soon as that happened... the book died. A few weeks after they met, they were already completely in love and mentioned that on every page of the book! It got so boring and sappy that I tended to ignore their love and focus on the rest of the story, so I could have something more dramatic to enjoy. What really bothers me, though, is that there are so many things that make no sense and seemed to not have been thought of all the way through. One that just popped to my mind (that can be highly arguable - so don't think too hard on this one) was the car rides. Even if the vampires are fast and have quick reflexes, that doesn't mean the car can follow at the same speed. No matter how fast one of them can turn the wheel, is has to go through a series of mechanisms until the car answers their turn of the wheel. Another thing that gets to me is knowing that the book language is so simple and straightforward that I could write the same way without much effort. It doesn't seem to have much thought put on it, as if she didn't bother to reread it and add more things. Some things could have better detail or better words - but I guess I can't really say much about it, since it sounds too intellectual and snobby to critique someone's writing (and I'm no intellectual snob). But even with all those flaws and negative sides, I still enjoyed reading it. It's a silly book, really. With some lightness to it that sucks you in. This really shouldn't be read hoping to find the next classic, it's simply a teenage vampire love book. The story, sappy as it was, can catch your attention in such a way that, once you grab the book, you can't put it down again. I really didn't want to stop reading and go to class or do work, that would take me out of my little fantasy world into reality again. With no handsome vampires.”
