I would use this book to interest students in learning about Native American culture. I would have students learn more about Native Americans and have them identify aspects of Omir’s environment that might shock or surprise Little Bear. I could also use this book as a creative writing prompt, having students write stories about their favorite toy coming to life.

The book is about a boy whose toy Indian comes to life in his cupboard. The cupboard is something magical that brings toys to life. This would be a good way for students to create a scene in a box. They could pick a scene in the book and create it in a shoe box.

This book can be used in the classroom as a read aloud or individually, and be compared to with movie. This book can be used as part of History unit for a comparison to accurate records.

This book can be used when learning about History of Cowboys and Indians. It is important to teach children that not all books tell the accurate truth. If the students learn more about the real history, they will understand the subject more in depth.
