A cute retelling of Cinderella, except this heroine is a feisty little thing. The only part which annoyed me was the languages of the mythical creatures that Ealla could understand. Otherwise, an enchanting story for younger readers.

This is a lovely take on the Cinderella story, complete with horrible step mother and step sisters, a fairy godmother and a Prince Charming. Populated with fairies, ogres, gnomes, giants and centaurs, this is a rich, exciting and entertaining tale with a feisty and independent heroine.

Ella was given a gift of obedience at birth. From then on, she had to obey everything people told her. Her mother died and father remarried a woman with two daughters. Ella sets out on a quest to have the gift taken away and finds her true love on the journey. Ella eventually finds a way to break the curse and marries the prince.

This book was fabulous. I really enjoyed reading it. It was a about a girl's miserable life because of having a curse to be obedient. I would say this book is for grades 4 and up. This book was a sad and a romantic fractured fairy tale. I would give it a 5 out of 5. You should read it or at least give it a try thats what every book deserves. this is my most favorite book in the whole wide world I just love I just can't describe how much!

I did not realize until the final chapters of the book that the story is a twist on the classic Cinderella fairytale. There are obvious clues that this is Cinderella. For example, the protagonist's name is Ella, her mother dies, her father remarries a mean woman with spoiled daughters, and the prince's name is Char (Get it? Prince Char?). But Cinderella haters should not avoid this book because of prior prejudices; this is not Disney's bird-taming princess--this princess tames ogres instead. Also, haters of the movies adaptation should give the book a chance, because the stories are not recognizably the same except for one fact: Ella has been "blessed" with the gift of Obedience. If someone gives her a command, Ella must obey it. That was a wonderful addition to the story, complicating the character's emotions and motivations, and making things more interesting.
Ella Enchanted is probably most appealing to upper elementary and middle school girls. Boys would shy away from it because it's about a princess (and not even a warrior princess). The book would be great inspiration for students to write their own new twists on a fairy tale, a great exercise for a writing or composition lesson.

This book is way better then the movie version!
I don't know why they didn't keep it like the book, two different stories!

I really enjoyed this book. So different from the movie which I also liked. Very good YA book.
