“I have been searching the internet this morning for studies of Wright and existentialism, and I am shocked to find very little. There are a few brief articles, there are a few mentions of the subject in longer articles, but I have not been able to find a comprehensive monograph on the subject. How is this possible? I would think that academics would be falling all over themselves to examine Wright and his relationship to Sartre, Wright as an American Existentialist, Wright as a unique example of African American Existentialism, and so on. What the heck are Wright scholars up to these days, anyway? Or does this reflect a a general turning away by American academics from French philosophy in general, and existentialism in particular? More examination clearly needed...”

Cross Damon is one of the most complex characters ever written. As a HUGE Richard Wright fan, I applaud him once again for his ability to convey the thoughts of this character in such detail. A must read.”
