Just finished the Dark is Rising series. Great fantasy books. Recommend for Harry Potter fans.

Great ending to one of the greatest series from my childhood. Haven't read it in twenty years. Enjoyed it just the same. Highly recommended (start with THE DARK IS RISING).

Out of all the books in this series, I found this one to be the least satisfying, perhaps because it was the least connected to the real and modern world.

this series of books follows a young boy preordained to fight on the side of the old ones against the dark. he has to find various objects of power in theyre struggle to keep the balance and not let the forces of the dark come to rule. these books are excellent. fun for young and adults alike.

Also the last part is great. One of the best young-adult series ever.

This series held great promises with book 2, The Dark is Rising. However, it went down hill from there, although this one is better than the last two. It's very mysterious, dream-like and magical...and kind of "meh."

I know I have read this book before, but I couldn’t remember anything about it. As I reread, I think the problem is the concept that the characters will be shown what to do when the time comes, which comes up repeatedly. That leaves us nothing to anticipate. Obstacles are not threatening when we have no idea where we are going anyway. The goal (a crystal sword) is very vague as is why it is important (to help the light) so although individual scenes may be very beautiful, there is no driving force behind them to make them memorable. Instead of being the climax, I found this the weakest book in the series.

So much to love. I think I checked it out from the library at least 5 different times so I could re-read it. On the first time through, though, read the whole series in order. Much more understandable that way.
