Didn’t Like It“I really didn't like this book in the series. I read it once and have not bothered to pick it up again.” see full review » see other reviews » |
“Somehow this book manages to be cozy and scary at the same time. Didn't like it quite as much as THE DARK IS RISING, but it's still good. Now, on to THE GREY KING!”

The story was streamlined and easier to follow, as well as more interesting. Since we had already met the children in the first book, their characters were better developed and they had more individual personalities.”

In this book, Will, Jane, and Barny must recovered the grail that they found in the first book, that has now been stolen by the dark. The grail however, is useless if they don't get a secret that the Greenwitch (an immage made of leafes thrown into the sea each year) has. They must get to it before the dark and finally uncover the secret writing on the grail.
I really liked this book because it shows how important team work and courage is and it is a conflict between light and dark in the world which is what almost everything in life and fantasy books is about. ”
“I'm just loving this series! i should have read it years ago. I enjoyed how this book brought together the siblings from the first book and Will from the second book.”

Easy to read. It is boring in parts but still very good. The Grail gets stolen and the gang has to find it again. It leads to the next object of the 4.”

This reading I was touched by the poignant humanity of Greenwich, torn between the light and the dark when to claim her right not to choose, was, in fact, to chose. I was struck by the unanticipated consequences of the wish that Jane considered foolish at the time. And yet that wish revealed the compassion and generosity of her soul. I loved that so much was told from the POV of the ordinary children of Over Sea, Under Stone.
Cooper’s use of language in the dream sequences and Wild Magic are what I aspire to in my current work-in-progress, The Empty Cup, sequel to Glastonbury Tor. ”
“Better than book two, the two stories come together”

Will Stanton and the Drew children are on a grail-hunt to prevent the Dark from rising. The grail that the Drew children found previously has been stolen for nefarious purposes by the Dark. As always, Celtic mythology (the greenwitch) and Arthurian legend make this series truly unique.”

Two "old ones" enlist the help of three mortal children in recovering the stolen grail. They innocently help recover the parchment that eventually decodes the inscriptions on the found grail.
Was captivating, in a series, but I could get into the first oneand really wanted to read the second one due to the cover. It seemed fine to read just the one although it was a continued story and I knew by the way the book read.
Enjoyed the fantasy of the "Greenwitch" being made in the story.”
