Better than the first book, which is unusual for a triology. More exciting and gripping, than the first as well.

First, I loved the writing style. The story was fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat. The characters were well developed. I enjoyed the plot and would highly recommend the series.

The action was forefront of the book but the motivations were cleverly woven into the story. The thing that I was disappointed with was where the theology ended. There were numerous references to the Old Testament: Cain and Abel, Noah, Jacob wrestling with the Angel of the Lord and the Angel of Death from Exodus. It seemed a very Old Testament only theology.

The discussion on free will was sound, but just stopped too soon. As Romans tells us we are all sinners and there is not even one who seeks God. We do not use our free will to seek God. The author also clearly showed how even our motivation to do good is grounded in selfish motives, for fame, money, power, appreciation, acceptance or even to gain love. The disappointing factor for me is that it was not once referred to that Messiah came and died to break those bonds that keep us enslaved to sin and set us free to choose righteousness, because of the transforming power of Christ in us. In fact, I thought the ending showed a very non-Christian, humanistic view. Mankind makes a sacrifice and love triumphs. The ending just wasn't enough for me.

Still, it was a well written, suspenseful read.

In my review of Relentless (Book 1 of this trilogy), I said that if the pace of that book was relentless, it left me breathless at the end. Well, I am more breathless at the end of Fearless than its predecessor!

Parrish has again developed this story well. The pace continues to be relentless and does not slow down. More twists and turns, plot thickening, more mystery and suspense. A bit more explanation of why all is happening to Grant and the other Ringearers. But this only whets our appetites to want to know more, and to become impatient for the concluding volume in this Dominion trilogy. I waited until I had all three books before reading them. However, I knew this was going to be a hit as I started reading the first installment when Parrish had serialised it on his Infuze Magazine website before a publisher was found. I am not disappointed in having to wait for all three.

Parrish develops his characters well and they are not shallow at all. It is easy to relate to them and what they are going through, especially of course Grant. He has created them very relational; and I guess this goes back to our childhood when we wanted so much to be like and relate to our favourite superhero. Reading both volumes so far has felt as if I am in this story and not in my surroundings reading it! That is a good indication that the author has achieved what he set out to achieve: transport you into the story in order for it to be told in its most effective form, as if it is happening to you in reality.

I won't spoil the plot by outlining it here; other reviewers in this community have done and the book description here does that as well.

This trilogy is highly recommended. You will not want this story to end!

    Fearless
    by Robin Parrish

Recently on a mailing list, someone asked what were the favorite books from 2007. I chose Fearless by Robin Parrish. This book is the second book in the Dominion Trilogy Series. Last year, I read the first book, Relentless. The storyline matched the title perfectly because the novel was action packed from beginning to the end. I was so excited about this book I suggested it to a coworker. I didn’t think it would be the type of book she would normally enjoy, but being an avid reader, I knew she would be pulled into the action like myself. Well, after waiting a whole year for this second book to be released, I must say Fearless was well worth the wait.

The saga of Grant Burrows, now known as “The Guardian” continues. After a major catastrophe, Grant and his team of extraordinarily powered humans are trying to pick up the pieces. With natural disasters and rioting, the world as they know it is crumbling around them fast. Grant and his team try to save as many people as they can. But in the midst of the disasters “The Guardian” is still searching for the people behind his extreme powers. What frightens Grant the most is whether or not he’s responsible for what’s taking place in the world now. His team will travel all around the world to find out how they can save the world from totally self-destructing.

When I was younger, I loved reading my cousin’s comic books. Even if you’re not a fan of comic books or fantasy, readers will be drawn into these characters from the very first chapter. Now unlike some book series, you really do have to read book one of the Dominion Trilogy. There are explanations about events that occurred in the first book, but there are also quite a few new characters introduced in the second book. Some key, beloved characters from the beginning will lose their life, so background knowledge is very helpful. Essentially, this book is the middle of the story.

One of the reasons why I chose Fearless as my favorite book for 2007 was because the ending shocked me. It was one big cliffhanger and I have to admit I sat with my mouth hanging open for a good minute. Then I just got mad. So next summer, I’m will be looking forward to Merciless. I imagine Robin Parrish’s Dominion Trilogy will go down as a classic in years to come. It’s a phenomenal story.

Grant Borrows and his friends are back in Robin Parrish's superb sequel. As the next chapter of this saga unfolds, we find Grant and the Loci using their abilities to bring order and justice back to Los Angeles. All over the world strange events and natural disasters are wreaking havoc, and Grant takes it upon himself to protect the citizens of L.A. The world has noticed and his dubbed Grant "Guardian", quickly elevating him to superhero status.

While Grant and company are reluctant to take on the roles of superheroes, they have joined together to use their powers for the greater good. Meanwhile, the Secretum of Six is continuing its mysterious actions as they await the culmination of an ancient prophecy concerning The Bringer. Grant soon realizes he must face the secrets and mysteries of his past, and his quest leads him and the Loci on a global trek for truth. As they search for answers about The Bringer and the prophecy that surrounds him, they must also continue to use their gifts to save a world that is suddenly seeped in chaos and despair.

As much as I loved Relentless, I found Fearless to be far superior. Robin Parrish has created a classic saga full of heroes, villains, action, and intrigue that gets better with each installment. As the novel opens we see Grant Borrows fully embracing his power and it is nothing short of thrilling to witness Grant in action. Parrish plays on the nostalgia we have for our favorite superheroes, and allows those feelings of awe and inspiration to surface again as we see Grant and his team work together to fight evil. The beauty of this story is its depth. This is not just a superhero tale; rather Parrish effectively includes elements of suspense, mystery, global conspiracy, prophecy, and destiny that make for a fast-paced and riveting read.

Parrish takes us deeper into the mysteries surrounding Grant, and the answers are shocking and fascinating. As the plot twists and turns we are led to a dramatic, gut wrenching conclusion that leaves us desperate for more. Parrish knows how to satisfy just enough to guarantee we will be back. Merciless hits shelves next summer and I for one am hungry for more.
