I purchased this book as a gift from my daughter's wish list and I enjoyed looking through it before I gave it to her. She was thrilled to receive it and immediately started preparing some of these mouth watering recipes. We agree this is a great book that includes not only delicious South Louisiana recipes but is peppered with some of the history and culture of the area, also. This book is very nicely done and will make a lovely addition to anyone's cookbook collection.

Oh my, i cant wait for the holidays to do the chapters on thanksgiving and new years. And this book is great reading by a very down to earth chef.

This is a whopper of a coffee-table style cookbook -- huge and heavy and full of stories about New Orleans. The photography of each recipe is beautiful. I borrowed this from the library and, while the recipes all sound wonderful, decided it wasn't a practical addition to my own bookshelf. Besh no doubt is an excellent cook (having won Iron Chef), but he reminded me that I don't have easy access to mudbugs, fresh lump crabmeat, and numerous other mainstay ingredients for New Orleans cooking. HOWEVER, should you be looking for instructions on creating a roux, you won't go wrong -- and that is valuable in and of itself.
