Fool For Love is written by Kayla Perrin. In this novel Kelly thinks back to after high school and making love to her first love Ashton. The next day she looks for him he is gone. His mom says that he’s left to go to college. No phone call. No letter. No goodbye. Years later Kelly has moved on. She has a good steady job, as a teacher in Phoenix. She has a nice steady reliable man named Glenn, whom has given her a marriage proposal. Her world is rocked when she comes home one day and hears Ashton’s voice on her answering machine giving a number and telling her to call him.

She debates it but makes the call. Ashton is calling about Kelly’s best friend Karen, who has just gotten a role as a understudy in a Broadway play. He wants her help throwing a surprise party with some of Karen’s closest friends. So after some long debating about seeing Ashton again she decides Karen is too good a friend to pass up the trip. Ashton meets her at the airport and she knows that her feelings haven’t changed. Ashton seems to be just as taken with the sight of Kelly. The book depicts Kelly as thick but the cover doesn’t make her look that way. The cover does Kelly justice though but not Ashton.
Then again I’ve never been a fan of dreds.

So Ashton takes Kelly to his and Karen’s apartment. She immediately hops to the conclusion that he and Karen have something going on. She and Karen are delighted to be reunited but unfortunately Karen has to work during the day so that leaves Ashton to spend time with. In between preparing for the party they’re feelings for each other begain to come out more and more. Till the next thing you know they are exchanging kisses and you know what passionate kisses can lead too. Because Kelly doesn’t want a repeat of last time she stops the first attempt. We learn that Ashton has been hurt in the past when his mother and another lover walked out on him so he has issues committing to women. But we always see that he loves Kelly and is sorry about what he did all those years ago.

We see it when he gets jealous of Tony, a guy that he works with. Flirts and pushes up on Kelly. Kelly doesn’t like Tony but she accepts his offer to go out to make Ashton jealous, and to prove a point that he doesn’t own her. If he can flirt with other women, she can flirt with other men. But Tony has a little something more in mind that just flirting. After a date one night he takes her to a deserted park and tries to rape her but Ashton shows up in the nick of time and saves her. They talk and he tells her that from then on he will honor her request and stay away from her. Because of him she’s suffered enough pain. But of course that isn’t REALLY what she wants.

When he tells her he needs to talk to her the next day he’s ready to profess how he feels. He’s written a song for her. I think they end up making love for the first time in his apartment. After the party they end up making love a second time but Kelly wants to know that it will be something serious. She’s been considering Glenn’s proposal but she knows that while Glenn will offer her a stable marriage it won’t be a passionate one like the one she and Ashton could have. Ashton being a typical man knows what he SHOULD tell Kelly but can’t quite put it in the right words. He can’t or his pride won’t tell Kelly that he will commit his self to her. This makes Kelly angry and she decides that what Ashton feels for her is just physical and there is not need to stick around any longer.

It hurts her but she prepares to leave. Ashton comes over to say goodbye but he STILL can’t seem to say the words that will stop Kelly from leaving. He’s torn. Kelly is ready to leave him behind but she’s hurt that he doesn’t even try to stop her from getting on the plane. But right at the last minute Ashton shows up and pops the question. Of course she accepts. Years later I think they either they are about to marry or they are married and Ashton surprises Kelly with the news that he has found a singing job so she won’t have to move back.

Fool for Love was a nice story. I’d give it seven stars. Even though it was fiction I like the idea that after years of not knowing that some day your answers will come to you unexpantly. I could relate to this story because the same thing that happened to Kelly happened to me, a love that disappeared from me and I never even knew why. I could fully put myself in Kelly’s shoes. This story gave me hope. It always showed that there are such a thing as happy endings. It also showed not to settle for second best. Kelly could have married Glenn but because she held out the love that was really meant to be hers found her in the end. WOW! Nice sentiment. There really wasn’t anything I didn’t like about the book. Another thing I liked was from a totally different perspective things are not always as they seem. It showed that guys have their reasons for not wanting to hop into a commitment so quickly. We might not understand their reasons but we never know what they’ve been through in the past. Very good book. Highly recommended.
