While the usual humor and wit is present in this story, Major Lucas Winter's reasoning is clouded with revenge. Amelia is really likeable because of her wit and charm, I liked the way she manipulated Lucas with the sword.
The story is pretty easy to follow, Lucas is set out to find an embezzling criminal and he's getting closer, but who would've thought the criminal is closest to the spunky heroine Amelia, there's instant attraction and Amelia carried herself well. She's really sharp and adventure-loving that I just can't help but laugh at her antics. It's only a matter of time before Lucas realizes her true character.
While they have good chemistry, and there were a lot of steamy scenes, this opened up a lot of other possibilities towards the other girls' stories. I can't wait to read the next! Louisa North (from the Royal Brotherhood series) finally have her own happy ending in "Only a Duke Will Do".”
“This was a good read even if the hero was a little annoying. I liked the heroine a lot though.”

I really do feel this one was a bit out of character for the period, but it did not matter. I just kept reading and enjoying every minute.
I really don't know what the odds are for this story - an American meets an English heiress and she gets all the adventures she could want - including travel abroad. What I do know is I will be reading more of her books, improbable or not.”
“I haven't read this book in a couple years and I forgot how good this book was. Lucas and Amelia were very entertaining everytime they fought. I also loved that Lucas was a "brass" american. :] He was so desperate for Amelia not to leave him when he realized he needed her in his life and I thought that was soo cute. Great start to the series.”

From the back cover:
Lady Amelia Plume has many admirers - it's too bad they're all fortune hunters and fops who can't provide the exotic adventures she seeks. But the ballrooms of Mayfair have become much more appealing since the arrival of Major Lucas Winter, an American with a dark past and a dangerous air. Lucas is brash, arrogant - and scandalously temping. Every thrilling kiss sparks hotter desire.
But Amelia knows that Lucas has ulterior motives in wooing her; but will he confess the truth? And will the truth set them free or tear them apart?
Do enjoy Sabrina Jeffrie's books, and this was no exception.”
“A great book from a wonderful author. I read one of the series earlier and now I am going to reread in order. I hope I enjoy the following ones as much.”

I kinda maybe skipped like half the book. I skimmed through the first half. It wasn't bad or boring. Just, the first book of a series is always setting up so many different things and I'm an impatient person. Instead, I started right when the good, adventure stuff began. It was great from then on. Amelia and Lucas were very sweet. ”
