“I have to say, reading the complete Grimms' Tales from start to finish has had a very strong influence on me and my writing. What surprises me is the number of obscure tales that are so beautiful I wish they were more well-known, as well as the number of tales where the woman rescues herself and/or her loved one. It isn't so much that the Grimms' Tales lack proactive women, so much as the Grimms' Tales that are well-known tend to lack proactive women.”

These stories formed a lot of my early thinking about life and why we are here. To those who blast fairy tales as being politically incorrect, I respond: HOGWASH. Folk tales are full of wisdom and truth and grisly gore. Bring 'em on.”
