A master of the psychological novel, McEwan pulls back the rock of civilized behavior and elegantly chronicles what manner of creepy-crawly...” see full review » see other reviews » |

A book about men doing their "manly" things. When the death of a woman that most of the main characters have been...” see full review » see other reviews » |

For such a short book, I've been reading it surprisingly long and have read probably three books in the mean time. I'm not saying that it's bad, it just didn't have that special something that "Atonement" had. I gave it four stars because of McEwan's remarkable and recognizable writing style. Maybe I return to it in a few years and feel different about it. Anyway, I will continue reading McEwan. ”

It is about Molly's ex-lovers, Clive and Vernon, part of the 60's set. I liked the lyrical passages - you can almost hear Clive's orchestration. The ending part, located in Amsterdam, is unexpected, a comical anti-thesis to the serious humanity of the first part.”

I did not like this book at all, and I don’t think it was a good book. The characters and almost everything they did were completely unlikable. The worst part of the book, however, is that I still cannot figure out what it was supposed to be about or what the point was. I liked Atonement enough that I’ll try another of McEwan’s books sometime, but I’m not going to waste any more time thinking about this one.”
