“I have a mixed reaction to The Message–the fourth book in Applegate's Animorph series. Mostly, I enjoyed it. Carrie narrates, illuminating her insecurities and their resolution. The plot is mysterious and suspenseful, climaxing with a great showdown against Visser Three in the ocean. The Message adds a new member to the team–I won't tell you who, but it's fascinating. This addition makes me want to read the fifth book. The only thing I didn't like was Applegate's description of dolphin intelligence. IMHO, dolphins are more self-aware and intelligent than Applegate portrays. I would not like to see a child adopt Applegate's view; therefore, I suggest that the reader does some research into dolphin intelligence. I recommend The Message for readers aged 9-12.”
