“I believe I would have enjoyed this book ten times more if the author didn't write several pages of pointless droning between the few pages that did matter. The main characters had so much potential to be...amazing (for lack of better words). They had the passion, the connection...but after the first part of the book, it never really escalated. When the book (finally) did end, I was really disappointed and bummed out. I don't hate the book, because the idea was intriguing, but it could definitely be lots better.”

“I tried really hard to like this book. I just couldn't get through it. It's not so much that it's not any good I just couldn't get into it. I really did try...just not my thing I guess. ”

“I am not normally a romantic vampire book reader; in fact, I’ve never been able to make it past the first chapter of any paranormal romance novel that I can recall. When I agreed to read this to support my extended essay supervisee, I had low expectations for this 400-page book. However, as I got into the text, I was pleasantly surprised to find an intelligent novel with likeable characters and a distinct writing style. I pleased to see a female protagonist who didn’t play the damsel in distress (and happy that my EE student chose to examine this role). I am still not a big fan of the genre, but at least this was a well-written and reasonably interesting text. ”

“I'm not usually one for vampire novels, but I really enjoyed this. Robin McKinley creates a complex & interesting world, as well as a narrator who is compelling to follow. I enjoyed the complex relationship between Sunshine and Constantine, and how she wrestles with her abilities, her actions, and her connection to a vampire.”
